Silver Linings
Last Wednesday I received an email from an assistant stylist requesting me to send corsets out to New York for the following day for a fitting. If suitable, my corsetry would be worn on the red carpet and for a performance at the IRadio Awards.
Worn by Madonna.
Now on receiving this email on Wednesday morning my adrenaline went into overdrive. How could I get a parcel out for next day delivery? How had they found me? Was this really happening? A woman so iconic for a zillion things, one of which being her corset-wearing. What a mad and fabulous opportunity.
The parcel was wrapped, packaged and a courier arranged. There were so many things that could’ve gone wrong, but every finger was crossed. When I checked the tracking the next morning I found that the parcel had never left the UK… Heart wrenching, it wouldn’t make the fitting. The kind of disappointment you can’t really put into words. The UPS courier, with whom I am now trying to get compensation from, had failed me. I couldn’t believe it.
I want to keep this post short and sweet. There are two main things I really pride myself on, my positivity and optimism and my ‘people skills’. Instead of seeing this as a dark cloud, I chose to see my silver lining….
At 23, and in the past year, I have had the total privilege of dressing and styling the gorgeous Billie Piper (more on that later), have had a full page in Vanity Fair with my style icon Helena Bonham Carter shot by Mario Testino, and now Madonna’s ‘people’ have noticed me. It’s a shame she wasn’t wearing Rosie Red Corsetry & Couture for her performance with Taylor Swift, but I can’t help but think there is more to come…
I’m excited. These things always have a way of working out, and I can’t wait to see what the next few months hold.
Whether it be missing a bus, burning your dinner or losing out at a job interview this week, I hope you all manage to find your silver linings. Sometimes they’re hard to see, but hopefully you’ll always see a glimmer ❤
